1. Visit the Wineries

Take the scenic Shiraz trail that connects the Mclaren Vale wine region with Willunga and is mesmerized by the spectacular views of vineyards and wineries. You can either take a walk, hire a bike or even ride a horse along its 8-km trail. You can also get a taste of the famous Shiraz and other delicious wines as you leisurely go along the trail. As you end the trail at the heart of Mclaren Vale, you can buy local produce and artisan food at Willunga Farmer’s Market.

2.  Fly over the Vineyards

Hop on a biplane and take a scenic 30-minute flight over Mclaren Vale’s beautiful vineyards to d’Arenberg. Marvel at the sight of rolling verdant hills and breathtaking landscape, after which, you can enjoy an excellent wine-pairing degustation meal.

3.  Visit Art Galleries

Visit the Fleurieu Arthouse and marvel at the art exhibits of sculpture, pottery and paintings. They host 10 local artists who create masterpieces that will simply amaze you. Or make a stop at the art exhibits at Red Poles, a gallery surrounded by vineyards, a restaurant and cellar door.

4.  Enjoy the Beaches      

Relax by the six sprawling beaches near Mclaren Vale that feature breathtaking cliff sceneries and gorgeous sandy coasts. Admire sunset or sunrise views as you walk along the beach’s boardwalk. Go horseriding along the beach, some of which also allow 4WD vehicles on the sand.

5. Visit Nearby Strathalbyn

Not far from McLaren Vale is the historic town of Strathalbyn, where you can visit and explore beautiful heritage buildings and antique shops.  One of South Australia’s prettiest towns, it is charming and picturesque, with a village-like setting. Strathalbyn iis a thriving heritage-listed country town. Shop from a wide variety of shops, visit events and get some of the best food and wine in the state.

Drop by the Blessed Cheese Café which is home to the Mclaren Vale Cheese and Wine Trail. Take delight in its cabinet filled with fine local farmhouse cheeses. The café also offers great coffee, croissants, wraps, salads, tarts, burgers, cheese platters, cakes and sausage rolls.

7.  Be at One With Nature

Explore Mclaren Vale’s natural attractions including the Onkaparinga River National Park. You can kayak or paddle a canoe along the calm waters of the river, which is the second longest river in South Australia. Enjoy breathtaking views as the river winds its way through floodplains and wetlands. Along the way, you’ll see the magnificent ridge tops and the narrow river valley of the spectacular Onkaparinga Gorge.
